History of the Gregorian Calendar

The Gregorian calendar is the most widely used civil calendar in the world today. It was introduced by Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582 as a refinement to the Julian calendar, primarily to correct the drift in the calendar with respect to the equinoxes and solstices.
